Recently, China pickup network obtained the sales data of domestic pickup industry in August 2021 from China Automobile Association. In terms of output, 30717 domestic pickup trucks were produced in August 2021, with a month on month increase of – 16.19% and a year-on-year increase of – 23.99%; In terms of sales volume, in August 2021, China sold 33769 domestic pickup trucks, with a month on month increase of – 10.53% and a year-on-year increase of – 19.91%. From January to August, China sold 355000 pickup trucks, with a year-on-year increase of 21.11%.

In recent months, due to the recurrence of the epidemic, chip crisis, frequent extreme weather and other factors, China’s automobile market has been impacted, the sales volume of mainstream automobile enterprises has declined, and the increase of supply chain risk has further increased the pressure of production reduction, and the domestic pickup truck market is gradually in short supply.

From the feedback of pickup truck manufacturers, the chip shortage is the biggest factor affecting the current sales setback, especially the industry giants represented by the Great Wall, which are more obviously affected because of their good recognition and high demand, while many pickup truck brands that sell well in overseas markets are also troubled by the lack of core. According to the prediction of China Automobile Association, the chip problem will continue to affect the next automobile market, and the increase of market demand in the fourth quarter will also aggravate the problem of limited supply.

In an optimistic view, although the chip problem has affected the enterprise’s production plan, the cumulative production and sales of pickup trucks still increased by 21% compared with the data of the same period in 2020, and it is still a bright color in the automobile market where sales continue to decline.
